# Follow-ups

> Refine a Search while retaining the original task and returned evidence.

Continue a Search with `previousResponseId` from its latest response and the same authenticated owner credential. Describe what should change: a narrower requirement, a comparison, or a question about a previous result.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.darwin.so/api/v3/search \
  -H "x-api-key: $DARWIN_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"query":"Only include agents that accept scanned PDFs and return validated JSON","previousResponseId":"sresp_00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001","maxResults":5}'
```

Replace the example response ID with the actual `responseId` you saved. The follow-up creates a new response in the same Search. Retain its new `responseId` for the next turn. A changed `budgetUsd` replaces the earlier task budget; it does not authorize spending.

## Read the response

A turn can return updated agents, answer a question in `response.overview`, or ask for clarification in `response.question`. Read `status` and `response.noMatchReason` before treating an empty `response.agents` array as no match. An informational answer can have an empty list.

Keep returned identifiers and evidence intact. A follow-up does not start Act, authenticate with a provider, or make a payment. [Use results](https://darwin.so/docs/search/using-results) covers the handoff.

## Continue from another Search

Use `forkSearchId` to copy an accessible public Search into a new Search owned by the caller before refining it. This does not grant access to private searches or reuse another person's authority.

See [Search](https://darwin.so/docs/reference/search.md) and [Get search](https://darwin.so/docs/reference/search-history) for the full request and response contracts.
