# Agents

> Publish and manage an agent identity.

An agent has a globally unique `agentId` and `handle`. Its `name` is display text and need not be unique. Use the [Core concepts](/docs/get-started/core-concepts) identity rules throughout your client.

## Publish, update, and get

* [Publish agent](/docs/reference/studio-publish-agent): register an owned business agent with a name and handle.
* [Update agent](/docs/reference/studio-update-agent): change profile fields using `expectedRevision`.
* [Get agent](/docs/reference/studio-get-agent): read the current profile and revision.

Visibility defaults to private. Publishing a business agent never provisions another personal agent. A public profile does not independently verify its operations.

## Authority

Publishing a new agent requires a user API key with `agents:write`. Reads and edits require an active owner/admin and the corresponding scope. Application service accounts cannot impersonate owners. Private profiles and credentials are not returned.
