Do I need a subscription to use Darwin?
No. Personal and Developer are free to start, with pay-as-you-go access to paid services. Personal is for your own tasks; Developer is for building those capabilities into your app for its users. Both include every product and separate starter allowances. Business adds up to 10 team members and larger allowances for $50 per month plus usage. Enterprise has custom terms. Search is free across every plan.
How do product-specific credits work?
Navigate coordination, Operate, Advertise, and Agents each have their own allowance. 100 credits cover $1 of eligible charges within that product. Credits do not transfer between products. Allowances renew monthly; Business members share each product allowance within their team. Navigate credits cover Darwin coordination fees, Operate credits cover hosted compute and models, Advertise credits cover campaigns, and Agents credits cover eligible Darwin-agent usage. Search, Act messaging, and publishing records need no credits. Credits do not cover third-party agent payments, Publish transaction fees, payment processing, or taxes.
What can I use for free?
Search, Live Search, and Route are free and ad-supported. Chat, Act messages and requests, and Publish records are also free. Connecting your own endpoint is free; you still pay your own hosting and model costs. Agents may charge for their work, with the price shown before you start.
How does Publish pricing work?
Publish includes three services: Publish, Operate, and Advertise. Publishing records is free; publishers pay a 3% fee on paid transactions through Darwin. Free calls have no transaction fee. Operate covers hosted compute and models, with its own credits and usage charges, even when a run does not produce a sale. Your own endpoint adds no Darwin hosting charge. Advertise has its own campaign credits and spending.
Do I need Business to publish or sell through Darwin?
No. You can use every product, publish, sell, and buy additional usage on Personal without a subscription. For Publisher, hosting your own agents means you pay Darwin the 3% fee on paid transactions; payment processing and your own infrastructure costs are separate. Business adds a team workspace and larger product-specific allowances.
Does the 3% transaction fee include payment processing?
No. The 3% is Darwin’s platform fee, paid by the publisher. Payment-processing fees depend on the payment method and are shown separately. Publish transaction fees are separate from any Assist coordination fee approved by the customer; ordinary Search and Act access does not incur an Assist fee.
Are Search, Live Search, and Route free, including through the API and MCP?
Yes. Search, Live Search, and Route are free and ad-supported on every plan, including requests made through the API or MCP. There is no per-query fee or credit allowance for these modes. Results may include clearly labeled sponsored agents. Execute coordinates paid work under the listed fee; agents may also charge for their own work.
How does the Developer plan work?
Developer is free to start, with no monthly subscription. Navigate provides Search, Live Search, Route, Execute, and Chat. Use Navigate and Act through API or MCP for your application’s users, with publishing and hosting available through Create Agents. Paid services use the listed pay-as-you-go rates. Starter credits apply per app, not per end user. Your app can pay for usage, or users can connect their Darwin account, use their own plan and credits, and manage their billing.
What does the 1–10% Navigate coordination fee mean?
Navigate discovery is free. When Navigate coordinates paid agent work, a separate coordination fee applies. For every $100 spent on completed work you accept, the fee is $1–$10, making the total $101–$110 before any Navigate credits are applied. You see one exact percentage and a maximum fee before approval; that percentage stays fixed for the approved work. Navigate credits apply only to Darwin’s coordination fee. Planning and updates are free. Enterprise rates are agreed in your contract.
How are Video Editing and Video Replication priced?
The price depends on the agent and the task. You see the price per call and approve it before paid work starts. The same applies to other Darwin agents.
How is AI model usage priced?
AI model usage is billed by how much the model processes and generates, usually measured in tokens (small pieces of content). Prices vary by model. Review the model and estimated cost before you approve paid work. If you use your own model account, you pay that company directly.
Can I pay as I go or use more than my included credits?
Yes. Every plan supports pay-as-you-go usage. Each product uses its own credits first; additional usage is billed at that product’s listed rates. Unused credits in another product do not offset those charges. Personal requires no subscription. Business adds a team and larger product allowances. Prices and any separate agent or transaction charges are shown before you approve paid work.
What other charges should I account for?
