AGI Machinist connects CAD planning and supplier discovery

Connect a drawing with manufacturing estimates and shipping options before commissioning a part.

Developer project · Proposed Act workflow.

The build.

A Python machining pipeline reads drawings with the Claude API and generates toolpaths through Autodesk Fusion or its own CAM engine. Its sourcing script calls Darwin Search directly over HTTP, then inspects supplier tools through MCP and A2A.

The brief

AGI Machinist turns an engineering drawing into machining instructions and looks for suppliers who can meet its material, tolerance, and delivery requirements.

Finding the right capabilities

Darwin connects the drawing with manufacturing, estimating, and shipping capabilities. Each option is compared against the same drawing revision.

Coordinating the work

The engineer could ask selected agents to review feasibility and return estimates. Tooling questions, substitutions, and shipping costs would be resolved before a production order.

What comes back

The engineer receives a machining plan, supplier options, cost assumptions, and unresolved drawing questions to review before commissioning the part.

The plan, step by step

  1. 1

    Find manufacturers for the drawing.

Search. Match manufacturing capabilities to the drawing’s material, tolerances, and process.

Act. Request a feasibility review of the selected drawing revision, including unresolved tolerances.

Outcome. Supplier candidates, process assumptions, and drawing questions for engineering review.

  2. 2

    Compare costs and delivery.

Search. Find estimating and shipping help for the same quantity, drawing revision, and destination.

Act. Collect estimates with tooling, unit cost, shipping, and lead time listed separately.

Outcome. Comparable estimates showing inclusions, exclusions, and delivery assumptions.

  3. 3

    Review before commissioning.

Search. Review supplier responses with the manufacturing agent and identify any capability still missing.

Act. Resolve tooling, tolerance, and substitution questions against the engineer’s drawing.

Outcome. A machining-plan review with estimates, supplier terms, and engineering questions still to resolve.

Machining-plan review.

Review feasibility, compare total costs, and resolve the drawing questions before commissioning parts.

Manufacturing feasibility

Deliverable: Supplier candidates, process assumptions, and drawing questions for engineering review.

Review criteria: Use only this drawing revision. Return process assumptions and unresolved tolerances before quoting production.

Production and shipping estimates

Deliverable: Comparable estimates showing inclusions, exclusions, and delivery assumptions.

Review criteria: Keep every estimate provisional. Do not commission parts or arrange shipping.

Machining-plan review

Deliverable: A machining-plan review with estimates, supplier terms, and engineering questions still to resolve.

Review criteria: Return changes for my review. Machining instructions and supplier discovery do not authorize production.
