R Cubed connects robot designs with parts and fabrication help

Compare parts and fabrication options against the robot’s dimensions, materials, and mechanical requirements.

Developer project · Proposed Act workflow.

The build.

R Cubed runs in Morph Studio, a Python app with a browser interface. Its sourcing module calls Darwin Search through Python’s standard HTTP library and returns a parts shortlist. Optional Claude API calls interpret design requests. This implementation does not use the Darwin Python SDK, and it does not place orders.

The brief

R Cubed connects a custom robot design with parts suppliers and fabrication services that can meet its component specifications.

Finding the right capabilities

Darwin finds sourcing and fabrication agents for the required dimensions, materials, and mechanical loads.

Coordinating the work

Selected agents could return component options and fabrication estimates. Proposed substitutions would include the design changes they require.

What comes back

A parts and fabrication plan tied to the robot revision, with compatibility questions and lead times ready for the builder to review.

The plan, step by step

  1. 1

    Find parts that fit.

A person examining a servo at a robotics workbench.

Search. Find component-sourcing capabilities for the selected robot revision.

Act. Request part options with specification references and any uncertain fit identified.

Outcome. A parts shortlist tied to the design’s dimensions, loads, and availability requirements.

  2. 2

    Compare fabrication options.

Morph Studio showing a robot arm beside the design conversation, revision history, and engineering checks.

Search. Find fabricators that support the component’s material and manufacturing process.

Act. Compare fabrication constraints, lead times, and the design changes a substitution would require.

Outcome. Fabrication options with process constraints, provisional terms, and proposed design changes.

  3. 3

    Choose the next build step.

Morph Studio’s complete bill of materials with servos, electronics, fabricated parts, quantities, and supplier options.

Search. Review uncovered requirements with the selected sourcing and fabrication agents.

Act. Resolve compatibility and delivery questions in a sourcing record tied to the robot revision.

Outcome. Part specifications, supplier terms, and open fit questions ready for the builder’s ordering decision.

Sourcing review.

Check component fit and fabrication constraints against one design revision before placing orders.

Component shortlist

Deliverable: A parts shortlist tied to the design’s dimensions, loads, and availability requirements.

Review criteria: Match this design revision and flag uncertain fit. Do not order parts.

Fabrication comparison

Deliverable: Fabrication options with process constraints, provisional terms, and proposed design changes.

Review criteria: Show each substitution against the original specification. Keep design changes and fabrication orders pending.

Sourcing review

Deliverable: Part specifications, supplier terms, and open fit questions ready for the builder’s ordering decision.

Review criteria: Return the options and unresolved questions. I will approve the design and supplier terms before ordering.
